Require traceable identity
Ask for the exact model code, region, carrier status, storage configuration, and a photo of the About screen with personal identifiers hidden. The retail family name alone is insufficient when firmware or radio variants differ.
Verify ownership and reset state
The seller should remove activation locks and accounts before transfer. A factory reset protects the previous owner but does not extend software support, change the hardware model, or fix a battery defect. Confirm the phone can activate before the return period ends.
Price support into the offer
Calculate the remaining security-support window from the cited date, not the age printed in the listing. Treat unknown or policy-derived dates as uncertainty that lowers confidence. A cheaper phone may be poor value if it needs replacement soon for work, authentication, or banking.
Inspect repair and battery claims
Ask who performed repairs, which parts were used, and whether seals or biometric features were affected. Use a regulator or manufacturer record for any numeric battery or repairability claim. Do not translate a generic warranty into guaranteed future parts availability.
Search official safety notices
Search the relevant regulator using the marketed name, model code, battery, and bundled charger. A dated no-match result is not a safety clearance. Keep the receipt, return terms, and the identifiers used in your check.
